A MESSAGE ABOUT COVID-19

First, our team would like to reiterate our commitment to keeping our Brown Girl Surf community safe and healthy during the coronavirus pandemic. We are also committed to taking every precaution to implement protocols that minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Here are some things that will be in effect this Spring:

  • All programs have been modified to have a maximum capacity of 4-6 participants, in order to maintain social distance.

  • All participants, volunteers, and staff will be required to wear a mask at all times during programming, except when in the water.

  • All participants, volunteers, and staff will be asked to undergo a temperature check at the start of programming.

  • All participants, volunteers, and staff will be asked to sign a COVID-19 agreement which they will receive after registration.

  • All volunteers have undergone training on COVID-19 safety protocols for running programs.

  • All programming and surf instruction has been meticulously modified to maintain social distance.  As such, many program offerings require that participants be able to handle their own boards in the surf zone. These programs will allow participants to focus on specific water skills with a lot of instructor attention (pop-up, wave knowledge, etc). We will still be offering some total beginner programs at Alameda crown beach, to introduce you to surfing, the equipment, and basic techniques of paddling and movement on a board. Some mixed level programs will also be offered at Half Moon Bay, that may be suitable for beginners who are already comfortable in the ocean.  We recommend that if you are a newbie to surfing and do not yet feel comfortable in the surf zone at the beach, that you sign up for the Alameda beginner programs. If you’re unsure, just contact marlim@browngirlsurf.com and we’ll help you figure it out.

  • We are not able to offer transportation to the beach. One of the hardest things about COVID-19 is that we cannot ride in cars together safely with people outside of our household.  If the cost of gas and tolls are a barrier to you joining a program, please contact us, and we can provide assistance. We have also made an effort to provide programs locally in Alameda.
